As many as three out of four women experience hot flashes as they go through menopause. Hot flashes come on suddenly and leave you red-faced and sweaty. They can last as long as 30 minutes, but most often subside after just a few minutes. Symptoms may include pressure in your head as hot flash begins; mild warmth to intense heat spreading through upper body and face; flushed appearance with red, blotchy skin on face, neck and upper chest; rapid heartbeat; and perspiration, mostly on upper body. If you have been experiencing hot flashes, you may be eligible to participate in one our research studies of an investigational medication or an FDA-approved non-hormone medicaton for the treatment of hot flashes.
